Counseling FAQs

How do I know if I need counseling?
Talking to a mental health professional can be useful in a variety of situations. If you’re experiencing stress, relationship issues, major life changes, personal, or behavioral or mental health concerns that cause distress and disruption in your daily life, counseling can help you cope.

Why should I choose Catholic Charities Counseling instead of another counselor?
Catholic Charities Counseling Services offers an affordable, confidential experience in multiple locations. If you lack health insurance, we offer a sliding-fee scale. You may choose to include faith or spirituality in your therapy.

Where are you located?
Our services are available to anyone in the twelve-county Twin Cities metro area. Our urban and rural locations provide convenient access and day or evening service hours. We have locations in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Blaine, Burnsville, Faribault, Monticello and Red Wing. We also have six School-based Counseling locations in area schools.

How much does counseling cost? If I don’t have insurance, can I still get counseling?
Counseling services can be covered by your health insurance. If you don’t have insurance, Counseling Services offers an affordable sliding-fee scale so you pay based on your income and family size. No one is turned away due to an inability to pay.

Who are your counselors?
Counselors are all professionally trained and licensed mental health professionals, including social workers and psychologists. Counselors adhere to professional codes of ethics, accreditation standards, peer reviews and continuing education requirements. Learn more about our counselors.

What services do you offer?
Counseling Services offers individual, group, marriage and family therapy. A psycho-educational Couple’s Communication program helps couples improve their relationship through improving communication, conflict resolution and effective listening skills. Therapy groups include therapy groups for men and a lifestyle change group for people with depression. The Support for Separated and Divorced program offers information, referrals, seminars and education to help separated and divorced people and their families.

How do I get started?
Call Counseling Intake at 651-647-3186. You will be asked a few questions and then matched with a counselor based on your location and schedule.
