| Finding the Solution to Doing More with LessAs Catholic Charities sees a dramatic increase in people in need, we also face reduced funding from many sources.
In response to the difficult situations Catholic Charities and other nonprofits face, the GHR Foundation created the Solutions Initiative, a one-time grant opportunity to help nonprofits adjust to the changing economic climate.
The foundation awarded Catholic Charities a one-year Solutions Initiative grant to solve the problem of serving more people with fewer resources.
Grant Funds Increased Efficiency in 2010 With the additional funding, Catholic Charities will analyze its work flow and processes for opportunities to increase efficiency. The agency plans to enhance its leadership capacity and deploy technologies to increase productivity and solve the problem of doing more with less. "We're turning every rock over and asking, 'How can we do this better, without sacrificing the quality and services our programs give our clients?'" says Kate Kelly, director of corporate and foundation relations.
Catholic Charities will evaluate its procedures to find opportunities for improved workflow or process to benefit the agency. For example, a new purchasing procurement system could increase efficiency and decrease expenditures.
"It frees up staff to do their job, which is to serve the client," says Brenda Younger, vice president of finance and administration. "A lot of good returns will come from this."
