College Graduate Credits Northside for His Success
If you needed to find Rashann Goodwin when he was a child, you could probably find him at Northside Child Development Center. “It was great to always have a place that felt like home,” says Goodwin, who, from the ages of 3-12, spent many summer days and evenings after school at Northside.
Rashann recently earned his bachelor’s degree from Portland State University in Oregon. He says the support he received at Northside kept him focused on academics and helped him thrive in school, even after his time at Northside ended.
Northside offers more than a place to play to the children who attend; it gives them a rich, structured educational environment that offers learning activities and homework help for students. Young children who attend Northside typically score higher on kindergarten readiness exams than their peers.
Although Rashann hasn’t been a student at Northside for more than a decade, he remains close with teachers and staff there, and he occasionally pays them a visit. “It’s more like a family atmosphere there,” he says. “They’ve really been a big part of my success.”
Catholic Charities gave Rashann the skills, confidence and support he needed to graduate from college. You can give a child the same opportunity. Donate to Catholic Charities now.
